Free State Premier, Mauqeen Letsoha-Mathae, has warned motorists to abide by the rules of the road this festive season.

Eleven victims of the Free State crash involving an Interstate bus and a truck on the N8 between Bloemfontein and Botshabelo were laid to rest on Saturday.

Ten of the deceased have been laid to rest in Botshabelo while one was buried in Excelsior. Letsoha-Mathae says government is intensifying measures to curb road carnages.

“We are losing too many people on our roads. We are in a festive season, a period often characterised by road carnages. We will show no mercy to anyone found to be in contravention of the rules of the road. We’ve lost too many people because of bad behaviour of a few irresponsible people. We’re going to work hard to ensure that we put an end to these accidents. May the legacy of all the 11 deceased guide us, may their spirit be with us and may they rest in peace. We wish all the injured speedy recovery, may the souls of the departed  find eternal rest and their families comforted.”
