DA's KZN committee rejects MK Party's no confidence motion against Premier Thami Ntuli

The Democratic Alliance (DA) announced its unwavering stance against a no confidence motion brought forth by the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) targeting Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli.

The Provincial Executive Committee of the DA in KwaZulu-Natal reached a unanimous decision to oppose this motion, branding it as a blatant attempt by the MKP to sow chaos and destabilise governance in the province.

In a statement released on Tuesday by Dean Macpherson, the DA’s KZN chairperson, the party expressed concern over the motivations behind the motion, asserting that it strays from the will of the people of KwaZulu-Natal who deserve stable and effective leadership.

The MKP’s assertive push to oust Ntuli stemmed from their belief that they genuinely represent the people’s interests in KwaZulu-Natal, claiming the premier’s position rightfully belongs to them.

Moreover, the party accused Ntuli’s provincial government of mismanaging state funds, a claim firmly denied by the Premier. Despite the allegations, Premier Ntuli’s leadership has garnered support from other coalition partners, indicating significant consensus among the parties involved.

However, the motion first collapsed when the African National Congress (ANC) indicated that it would not support the motion of no confidence.

The parties, DA and ANC, form part of the Government of Provincial Unity, together with the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and the National Freedom Party (NFP).

MKP filed the motion early last month, however, it had to be resuscitated after the legislature Speaker Nontembeko Boyce had cited some unprocedural aspects of it.

Ntuli’s premiership has also been guaranteed by the ANC. The party had long resolved in its provincial general council that it will not support the motion. The ANC’s position was also influenced by its recent agreement with the IFP in Umkhanyakude District Municipality which saw the ANC returning to power.
