The Ad Hoc Committee looking into concerns around national security will conduct its work at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Services facility from Tuesday morning until Friday.

The South African Police Service’s Chief Financial Officer, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, will testify on Tuesday.

The committee was established to investigate the allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the justice system.

Parliament says the decision to hold hearings at Kgosi Mampuru follows a resolution by the committee that is intended to ensure the safety and security of all parties involved in the investigations, including one of its key witnesses, businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, who is in custody.

Matlala is scheduled to appear from Wednesday to Friday.

He will also be questioned about the awarding of a R360 million health tender to his company and also his alleged possession of information relating to the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team (PKKT).

The hearings are open to the media.

Meanwhile, the Ad Hoc Committee says it has almost concluded the list of key witnesses it requires to investigate allegations made by Mkhwanazi.

Chairperson of the Committee, Soviet Lekganyane, says they are waiting for a response from the Speaker of the National Assembly, Thoko Didiza, to grant a further extension.

“We have always exhausted the list of witnesses and we may have to guide the legal team on the key witnesses that have to be consulted in the period between now and probably the thirteenth of December when we will still be waiting for the extension by the office of the Speaker of the National Assembly because so far, we have not received any letter of extension,” says Lekganyane.
