The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a recall of VW Amarok vehicles sold nationwide from 2 June to 15 September this year.

The NCC says, in the event of a front or side impact, the curtain airbag may not fully deploy.

The recall affects 291 vehicles in South Africa.

NCC spokesperson Pheto Ntaba says those who own the affected vehicles are urged to take their vehicles to any approved VW Commercial Vehicles dealer for the replacement of the affected components.

” According to VW, the reason for this recall is the defective airbag, that they say it may not fully deploy in the event of a front or side impact. We understand that sharp edged plastic components may also come loose or remain in the airbag. This can actually reduce protection for the driver in the front passenger. We add consumers to who are driving these vehicles to immediately contact their VW commercial vehicles dealer to have the vehicle inspected and where they need to replace their defective component. They will do that at no cost to the consumer.”
