Former Bosasa Chief Operations Officer Angelo Agrizzi has successfully avoided jail time in a significant development in South Africa’s fight against corruption.

Agrizzi, a former whistle-blower and key figure in exposing systemic graft linked to Bosasa had entered a plea agreement with the state.

The High Court in Pretoria sentenced him to a 10-year jail term on Thursday.

Agrizzi had been convicted on four counts of corruption.

Although he was sentenced to a total of 40 years, 10 years for each count, the terms were to run concurrently.

The sentence is suspended for five years under strict conditions.
