Champions Cup Pool 2: Too tight to call
Champions Cup Pool 2: Too tight to call

How things stand in Pool 2 of the Investec Champions Cup with two rounds remaining.

The top four in each six-team pool progress to the last 16 of Europe’s premier club competition, with the fifth-placed team dropping down to the EPCR Challenge Cup.

Pool 2 features no South African sides, but is lit up by some of the biggest names in club rugby and is by far the most closely contested of the four Champions Cup pools.

After two rounds, a single point separates Bath in first and Edinburgh in sixth. In fact, the points difference between first and sixth is only 35, so there is literally everything to play for in the final two rounds of pool fixtures.

Bath top the pool with six points, but are then followed by Castres, Munster, Toulon, Gloucester and Edinburgh, all on five.

All six teams have won one and lost one so far in the Champions Cup, so form is difficult to predict. In the Vodacom URC, Munster have won six from nine to sit sixth in the standings, while Edinburgh have won three from eight to sit 10th.

Round three action kicks off on Friday night with Castres hosting Bath and Edinburgh welcoming Gloucester. Munster travel to Toulon on Sunday.

The final round of Pool 2 fixtures sees Bath host Edinburgh, Castres travel to Munster and Gloucester welcoming Toulon.

Who will be the four teams to qualify for the round of 16 is anyone’s guess at this stage, but sit back and enjoy the ride.
