Collective effort helped keep Sacha

John Dobson admits the Stormers simply could not afford to let a player of Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s influence slip through their fingers.
The Springbok flyhalf has signed a long-term contract extension with the Stormers.

It will keep him in Cape Town until at least July 2029, while strengthening Stormers Rugby’s Project 2029 and securing one of the most exciting talents in world rugby.
“He was vital for this franchise,” Dobson said.
“We got it right through Sacha being keen to be here but also with some help from third parties. It was a collective effort with the money being demanded overseas. It was also a great bit of compromise on Sacha’s part in terms of price. Collectively, people got together to keep him.
“I don’t think we could’ve lost him to this franchise with how he plays.”
The 23-year-old’s long-term commitment is a defining moment for the Stormers’ long-range planning, anchoring a squad built around elite, homegrown talent. Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s extension follows the retention of key figures such as Damian Willemse and Evan Roos, while the likes of Ntuthuko Mchunu have also been added to strengthen the core.
“We didn’t think we’d be taking that seriously if we didn’t keep some of the players like Damian Willemse, Sacha,” Dobson said.
“We made the signing of Tuks Mchunu, Evan Roos was in high demand and some of the players coming up. It’s important for ‘Project 29’ that we keep these guys around.”
