Court hears housekeeper was unaware of money hidden on farm – SABC News
The second state witness in the theft of foreign exchange at President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm in Bela-Bela, has told the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo, that she was not informed about the stolen money.
Advocate Koena Matlala has concluded cross-examining the 36-year-old housekeeper at Ramaphosa’s farm. She is testifying against three people who allegedly broke into the farm and stole over $580 000 or more than R10 million that had been hidden in a sofa.
They were arrested in October 2020.
This is what transpired between advocate Matlala and the state witness:
Adv Matlala: After Mr Sylvester checked and went back to the house, did you get information that money was stolen from the farm?
Witness: After Mr Syvester was through with his checking, I did not hear anything that there was any money, and again that they stole.
Another defense lawyer, Adv Ralleng Masipa will also cross-examine the witness.
The former acting lodge manager has earlier testified that he stuffed the money inside a sofa in a spare bedroom in Ramaphosa’s house at the farm when he prepared to go on leave.
The court has ordered that the witnesses must not be identified.
