Experience the magic of Christmas at Time Square in Pretoria
Visitors to Time Square at Menlyn Main in Pretoria East can once again step into the magic of Christmas, with the annual Christmas lights which were switched on on Friday. People can experience this wonderland with a dazzling stroll through the spectacular festive-light garden and discover picture spots perfect for capturing holiday memories that will last a lifetime.
This year’s lights were switched on by Miss South Africa first princess Luyanda Zuma and Time Square food and beverages manager Preshan Pillay. The Christmas cheer can be viewed until January 4.
Meanwhile, as New York counts down with its famous ball drop, Pretoria’s Time Square has its own New Year’s Eve bash. Before, the festive spirit will be brought to life not only with the enchanting festive lights display, but also with a sparkling Christmas music spectacular.
More than a dozen of South Africa’s top artists will take to the stage in a glamorous celebration of Christmas, in a concert that revives the festive spirit in true Boney M style. Lefra Productions also brings Christmas Spectacular back to the SunBet Arena on Reconciliation Day, December 16, living up to its motto of “Lefra entertains South Africa” with a production that is as heartfelt as it is lavish.
The renowned Chanie Jonker is at the helm as musical director, with acclaimed theatre maker Frans Swart confidently in the director’s chair. Swart, recently honoured with The Star Award from the Roodepoort Theatre for three decades of work in theatre, is known for beloved productions such as Die Rypmaakkamer, My Vrou se Man se Vrou, Vlerksleep, Die Dood van die Founmannetjie and Helene Bester sings Nana Mouskouri.
This year’s Christmas Spectacular features South African vocal talent, including Alwyn Oberholster, Anna Davel and André Schwartz. With a full orchestra and the Magaliesberg Children’s Choir conducted by Hannelie van Sittert, the show presents a rich tapestry of words, sound, colour, costumes and some of the most beautiful Christmas music ever written.
The production offers not only show-stopping performances and nostalgic Christmas hits but also a deeply spiritual experience.
