Govt to launch Mobile Hydrogen Refuelling Station at NWU
Science, Technology and Innovation Deputy Minister Nomalungelo Gina is expected to officially hand over a Mobile Hydrogen Refuelling Station (MHRS) and formally open the Rapid Prototype Training and Testing Facility (RPTTF) at the North West University (NWU) in Potchefstroom in the North West.
This underscores a significant milestone in the country’s Just Energy Transition, hydrogen economy development and net-zero carbon ambitions.
The MHRS, completed in February last year, is the result of a partnership between the HySA Infrastructure Centre of Competence and Toyota South Africa Motors.
The station serves as a strategic platform to demonstrate hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle technologies, showcasing locally developed intellectual property and strengthening collaboration between the public and private sectors.
It forms part of efforts to build an integrated hydrogen value chain in South Africa.
The RPTTF supports Additive Manufacturing (3D printing) by transforming digital designs into functional prototypes for testing and manufacturing.
These facilities play a critical role in accelerating product development across sectors such as automotive, aerospace, and medical technology.
