Have your say | Lawmakers invite public to submit comments on Madlanga Commission claims
The Ad Hoc Committee to Investigate Allegations made by SAPS KwaZulu-Natal provincial head, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has opened the floor for public engagement by inviting individuals and organisations to submit written evidence relevant to its enquiry.
This move aims to assess the breadth and implications of serious allegations concerning security matters that were raised by Lt-Gen Mkhwanazi during a pivotal media briefing in July, where he presented the operations of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
According to the committee, this enquiry is rooted in the Terms of Reference (ToR), which detail the scope and responsibilities of the investigation. These ToR can be accessed via the Parliament’s website or directly from the committee secretariat.
The committee stressed that it will conduct the enquiry in alignment with the ToR, with the flexibility to adjust them as needed to meet its objectives effectively.
In line with Section 59(1)(a) of the Constitution, which mandates committees to enhance public involvement in their processes, the committee encourages citizens and interested parties to be fully informed and participate in the enquiry actively.
The committee has made it clear that only submissions that pertain specifically to the enquiry’s scope will be taken into consideration.
Those wishing to contribute their voices or evidence must submit their written statements, which must be endorsed under oath or affirmation. It’s important for potential contributors to note that the committee stands ready to assist those who may require guidance in preparing these sworn statements or the submission of evidence.
Interested individuals or entities are advised to reach out to the committee for support to ensure their submissions are both thorough and compliant.
The deadline for all written submissions is set for October 17, 2025, making it crucial for contributors to adhere to this timeline. Submissions can be sent to adhocmkhwanazi@parliament.gov.za.
Additionally, inquiries regarding the submission process can be directed to committee representatives: Mr V Ramaano at 083 709 8427, Adv P Gwebu at 083 709 8395, or Ms B Mbengo at 083 09 8489.
