Heavy rains expected in Nelson Mandela Bay, Kouga municipalities

Residents of Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and Kouga Municipality in the Eastern Cape have been warned to be extra vigilant as heavy and destructive downpours are likely to hit the area once again.
The South African Weather Services (SAWS) had issued a level eight warning for destructive rains in the Nelson Mandela Bay and surrounding areas from Wednesday until Thursday.
The warning comes as farmers in the Kouga and Koukamma municipalities are navigating a gruelling recovery after last month’s catastrophic floods.
Eastern Cape Weather forecaster Ayabonga Tshungwana says the predicted rainfall will be between 60 and 80 millilitres, and it’s likely to cause flooding as dams in those areas are already full.
“Remember those municipalities that have just been affected by floods in the last month, because we saw that the damage has not been repaired yet. We decided to issue level 8 so that everyone can be prepared that there might be more damage, and also we are expecting the cold conditions, which will result in significant drops in temperatures, and we might see snowfall in high-lying areas of the Eastern Cape.”
Residents in affected areas are urged to remain alert as SAWS forecasts very cold, wet, and windy conditions from 3β4 June 2026, with heavy rainfall, flooding risks, and rough sea conditions expected in parts of the Western and Eastern Cape.#StaySafe #WeatherAlert pic.twitter.com/t8AvVmYDYo
