International Food Market set to boost jobs in Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu is optimistic that the International Food Market, officially opened for active trading in Mbombela, will create direct and indirect job opportunities for locals.
The market is being hailed as an initiative to drive economic growth and link small-scale farmers with international, regional and local buyers.
Construction started in 2018 but was marred by delays, with the amount spent ballooning to more than R2 billion.
Ndlovu says, “When fully operational, we are going to appoint 156 people who will be working here on a full-time basis, creating direct jobs. Indirect jobs will be close to 156 000. We are happy that this market will help us achieve one of our priority areas, which is job creation.”
