KZN fugitive arrested in NW for 2024 attempted murder of nephew

Police in the North West have arrested a Durban man who’s been on the run for more than a year after the attempted murder of a nine-year old relative.
Police say the incident happened in January in 2024 in Chesterville in Durban. They’ve identified the man as Sduduzo Mavundla, after earlier releasing his identikit.
It’s believed Mavundla attacked his nephew to take revenge on the boy’s father.
Mavundla was arrested during the initial investigation was later released on bail but failed to appear in court. A warrant of arrest was issued in September last year.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda, “Sduduzo Nkosikhona Mavundla (29) was arrested by police in Hebron, North West province on Tuesday evening. After receiving tasking from their KwaZulu-Natal counterparts, the Brits Crime Intelligence and Brits Trio Task Team traced Sduduzo to Itereleng Section in Hebron.”
Netshiunda adds, “The unsuspecting Sduduzo was watching soccer at one of the taverns when he was arrested. He will be brought to KwaZulu-Natal where he will appear in court soon.”
