KZN police launch investigation after man and 14-year-old boy killed in Tongaat drive-by shooting



KwaZulu-Natal police are investigating the murder of two victims who were killed during a drive-by shooting in Tongaat.

The shooting occurred on Tuesday at Magwaveni area when a 33-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were killed while installing a radio system.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said while they were busy, a white vehicle with two occupants stopped next to them.

“One of the occupants opened fire, fatally wounding the 36-year-old man. The 14-year-old victim was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries upon arrival,” said Netshiunda. 

Netshiunda added that both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

“The motive for the attack is not yet known.”

Meanwhile, members from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said when they arrived on the scene, they found the 33-year-old lying next to a red Toyota Corolla with multiple gunshot wounds to the head, neck, face, and chest.

“Witnesses reported hearing several shots before a vehicle sped away,” said RUSA.

KwaZulu-Natal police are investigating the murder two victims who were killed during a drive-by shooting.

In another separate incident in KZN, Netshiunda said a suspect was shot dead in a shootout with police in Verulam on Tuesday afternoon.

“Two suspects hijacked a vehicle, and the owner of the vehicle alerted the police who responded swiftly.”

Netshiunda said the suspects were cornered in Cornubia where police instructed them to stop but they started shooting at the police officers and police retaliated.

“During the shootout, one suspect was shot and fatally wounded, whilst the other one was arrested. The suspects were each found in possession of a firearm,” he added.
