Loved ones to honour pilot Andrew Blackwood-Murray

Family and friends of beloved pilot, Andrew Blackwood-Murray, are expected to pay tribute to him at a ceremony in Germiston this weekend.

On August 14, Blackwood-Murray had been taking part in an airshow in Durban, when the aircraft levelled off and crashed into the ocean.

A preliminary report from the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) stated that parts of the wreckage were recovered, including the empennage, elevators, both wings’ skin composite covers, both wings’ ailerons, and the engine.

The SACAA classified the crash as an accident and launched a full investigation.

Blackwood-Murray’s body was found washed up on a Durban beach almost one month after the crash.

His family shared that the event, celebrating Blackwood-Murray’s life will take place at Hangar 34 and Rand Airport on Sunday, September 28 at 9am. The dress code is joyful.

They added that they have been so moved by the outpouring of love and messages shared since the crash.

“We are deeply moved by how Andrew has been remembered — not only as a skilled and passionate pilot, but as a friend, mentor, and extraordinary human being. The messages, memories, and kindness have lifted us more than you know,” the family said.
