Massive police crackdown in Northern Cape leads to over 500 arrests

More than 500 suspects have been arrested in Northern Cape for various offences, including murder, rape, robbery, and burglary.
The suspects were apprehended during the ongoing Operation Shanela in five districts.
Provincial police spokesperson, Molefi Shemane, says compliance inspections were conducted at formal and informal businesses, and several unlicensed liquor outlets were shut down.
“Police operations conducted across the five districts of the Northern Cape resulted in the arrest of 567 suspects. The arrests relate to contact crimes, property-related offences, and police-initiated actions during intensified high-density operations. As a result of these operations, 2,989 vehicles and 6,687 individuals were stopped and searched at vehicle checkpoints and roadblocks conducted throughout the province.”
