Missing Polish tourists found safe after extensive search in Mpumalanga

Two missing Polish tourists have been found following an extensive search by Mpumalanga police, Hoedspruit farmers and MTPA Rangers.

The women, Kidvohid Koldsinukd and Joldata Astost allegedly booked for a hike on Thursday, November 13, to the Belvedere Hiking trails but did not return later that day.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the MTPA Rangers then alerted the Dientjie police, and a search was launched.

“The two could not be found as it was getting dark which made the search difficult. Other role players also participated in the search, including the SAPS’s Search and Rescue team.

“A private chopper from Hoedspruit farmers was also brought in to help the team as they were working against time. The search resumed on Friday from 7am,” he said.

Ndubane said the women were later located.

“According to the duo, they reportedly slept next to the river. Through the assistance of the chopper, the Search and Rescue team, consisting of members from both public and private sectors, was successful in their endeavour,” he added.

The women were taken back to their accommodation where they could rest.

Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the team members as both police and their counterparts from various private organisations worked with diligence to ensure that the tourists were found alive.

“We want to thank all stakeholders for displaying unity in the common cause and for them, having to put together resources, thereby tracing the two tourists, shows that working together we can achieve more, even in the fight against crime. The effort is well appreciated, ” said the General.
