Mogotsi’s ‘D-Day’ message to Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala in sharp focus

North West businessman Brown Mogotsi has denied that his text message to Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala on New Year’s Eve in 2024 had anything to do with the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
The text from Mogotsi to Matlala states “today is D-Day”. This is the same day that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu issued the letter of disbandment of the PKTT.
But testifying before the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria, Mogotsi has vehemently denied this, stating that it was for the outstanding amount of money that Matlala owed him for an ANC event in January.
“The D-Day was for the payment of the January 8th. And then to stand back. And I only spoke about your safety and business because I did allude yesterday it was after I heard that they (were) going to Matlala. They were going to do a similar thing they did previously. And even if you check the next one I said you must just fight what comes your way.”

Furthermore, Mogotsi has questioned if he should continue giving evidence before the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria.
During his testimony Chairperson Mbuyiseli Madlanga questioned Mogotsi if he took his oath seriously and if he knew that it’s binding.
The comments by Justice Madlanga come after Mogotsi’s testimony was found to be questionable.
Mogotsi says, “If someone is in my shoes, does it help for me to be here or as it goes on, it will start to bind in the mind of the commissioners. Is it still appropriate for me to be sitting here giving evidence on a known fact that the oath that I have taken doesn’t help.”
