Northern Cape eyes renewable energy to boost economy
The Northern Cape government says it will pursue projects related to renewable energy as it seeks to grow the economy of the province.
The statement comes on the eve of the provincial government’s inaugural investment conference in Kimberley.
Finance, Economic Development and Tourism MEC Lorato Blennies-Magage says several projects are already in the pipeline.
Blennies-Magage says, “We plan to grow that to 200 billion by 2030. There are several projects that we have secured already in the investment pipeline, but the plan is to ensure that we get 200 billion by 2030 in terms of GDP, and what that should translate to is sustainable jobs for the people of this province. We set ourselves a target of 60,000 sustainable jobs as well by 2030 and really see that as our medium-term target.”
