They face charges of ill-discipline and gross misconduct following allegations that they attempted to strip National Office Bearers of their powers and sow divisions within the union.
The announcement was made by NUMSA General-Secretary Irvin Jim during a media briefing following a special National Executive Committee meeting.
“Their mission is to liquidate the elected worker leadership politically before congress, capture NUMSA and turn it into a plaything of interests that have no record of service to metalworkers. The gathering was bogus because it was convened and conducted as if the union elected leadership constitutional structures and pending disputes did not exist. Those present nevertheless declared themselves the leadership of the moment purported to exercises central committee powers and issued statements in NUMSA name without following the union established protocols for convening a national press conference, that is ill-discipline.”
