Over 340 suspects arrested in Gauteng weekend operations – SABC News


More than 347 suspects have been arrested across the Gauteng Province in the various law enforcement operations over the weekend.

The arrests were affected through joint law enforcement operations between Gauteng Traffic Police and Traffic Wardens, Metro Police as well as the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Gauteng spokesperson for Community safety Ofentse Morwane says the operations that clamp down on lawlessness, searched over 4 400 people and over 1300 vehicles in all five regions in Gauteng and about 1 491 traffic fines were issued to motorists while 24 vehicles were impounded.

Morwane says that the operations demonstrate the needed efforts of law enforcement agencies and their commitment to ensure the safety of the people of Gauteng,

“We will continue to intensify our law enforcement operations across all the corridors to deal with lawlessness and criminality in general.”

Morwane further encouraged members of the public to report any suspicious behavior in their respective areas to a nearest police station.
