Police launch investigation after 16-year-old girl found murdered in Joza



Police have launched a full-scale investigation after the body of 16-year-old Linomtha Skeyi was found in an open field behind the Department of Social Development in Joza, Makhanda on Christmas Day.

According to the SAPS in Sarah Baartman District, Linomtha had been reported missing on Christmas Eve.

“The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Sarah Baartman District has affirmed its commitment by mobilising maximum resources to track down the suspect (s) involved in the murder of Linomtha Skeyi (16),  whose body was found in the open field behind the Department of Social Development premises at Joza in Makhanda on Christmas Day 25 December 2025,”.Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli said.

Police said that she was discovered by a volunteer searcher during a search operation. Preliminary observations indicated that Linomtha had sustained multiple wounds to her upper body.

“Linomtha Skeyi was reported missing on Christmas Eve, 24 December 2025. Tragically, during a search and rescue operation on Christmas Day (25 December), her body was discovered at about 09:20 by a volunteer searcher. Preliminary observations indicated she had sustained several wounds to her upper body”.

The police have also appealed to members of the public to come forward with any information that could help identify and arrest the suspect or suspects.

“Police are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect (s) to contact the investigating officer,  Detective Captain N. Toto on 082 377 8204. The information may also be shared anonymously via Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” the police said.
