Probe under way in Eastern Cape fatal crash – SABC News


An investigation is under way into a collision in which 15 people were killed on the R63 between Adelaide and Maqoma in the Eastern Cape.

The incident happened on Saturday night.

It involved a minibus that was travelling from Qonce to Cape Town and a bakkie that was travelling from Adelaide to the Kwamaqoma.

Transport Minister Barbara Creecy has conveyed her condolences to the bereaved families.

Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane has sent his condolences to the bereaved families, also urging road users to exercise extreme caution.

Mabuyane Provincial Government Spokesperson, Khuselwa Rantjie, explains: “He has extended well wishes to those who have been injured and are now receiving medical treatment. The Premier has called all road users to exercise maximum caution and remain vigilant on the road. Different stakeholders with the government are coordinating support for affected families and will continue to engage with stakeholders to enhance road safety awareness and monitoring on high-risk roads.”
