Early data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) signals a further rise of up to close to five rand a litre for petrol next month.

This comes as South Africans are coming to terms with the fuel price increase that took effect this week.

The Automobile Association of South Africa (AA) ‘s CEO, Bobby Ramagwede, has condemned it, saying it is disappointing to see that the petrol price is increasing as rapidly as it has, in addition to the forecast presenting another threat of R5 to the petrol price.

“The AA is further disappointed by the fact that the govt has not really done much to shelter both motorists and general consumers from these shocks. We’ve done the math, and there’s a good R7/R8 of taxes that are baked into the fuel price that are unrelated to the fuel commodity that the govt can actually afford to set aside until at least a point where the conflict has left the global oil price in a more stable condition.”
