The Seshego Polokwane Taxi Association in Limpopo has announced an increase in taxi fares with effect from today, citing rising fuel prices.

The fare between Seshego and Polokwane has increased by R5, moving from R15 to R20.

Association chairperson Takalani Nemahungani says the association attempted to avoid increasing fares but had limited options due to rising operating costs.

Nemahungani says, “We have tried our best to come up with a mechanism so that we can at least manage not to increase the fare because we understand the problem that our customers are going to face, but we end up having no any other alternative but to increase the fare. We know that this will cause inconvenience, as we know that most of our people are not working.”

The increase comes amid broader concerns over the impact of fuel price hikes on transport costs and household finances across the country.
