Severe thunderstorms and fire warnings issued for South Africa



The South African Weather Service (Saws) has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours over the Eastern parts of Mpumalanga.

According to Saws, residents need to brace for strong winds and excessive lightning as well as hail in those areas. The forecaster has also issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging wind and waves between Cape Point and Cape Agulhas from Monday, which is expected to spread towards Plettenberg Bay in the evening until Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a warning of an extremely high fire danger index is issued for the western part of the North West and the north-eastern part of the Free State.

In Gauteng, Limpopo and the Free State it will be fine and warm becoming partly cloudy with isolated afternoon storms.

The Western Cape can expect fog patches over the extreme northern and north-western parts, otherwise fine and warm, but cool along the coast.

In KwaZulu-Natal it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thunderstorms.
