Shebeshxt appears in court on attempted murder charges

Limpopo musician Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, known by his stage name Shebeshxt, appeared briefly in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on charges of attempted murder, malicious damage to property, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The charges stem from an incident that unfolded in October.

According to court documents, the complainant and a friend were driving along Witklip Street in Ladanna, Polokwane, and recognised Chauke, greeting him as fans.

Chauke allegedly responded rudely to the pair before discharging a firearm in their direction.

The bullet struck the complainant in the jaw, while also damaging the window of a nearby Nissan vehicle, owned by a witness to the incident.

The wounded fan was rushed to the Polokwane Provincial Hospital for urgent medical care.

Following this harrowing incident, a police investigation was launched, leading to Chauke’s arrest on November 12. The musician currently remains in custody, as he awaits the next steps in his legal proceedings.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Chauke has faced legal scrutiny. He is also dealing with a series of unrelated charges that include multiple counts of attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and malicious injury to property.

NPA spokesperson, Mashudu Malabi, said this earlier case is expected to be heard from February 17 to 19, 2026 in the Lebowakgomo Regional Court, where he is out on R5,000 bail.
