Tragic N2 crash claims the lives of a family of five in KZN
A family has been killed in a horror crash on the N2 before the Umzumbe River bridge in KwaZulu-Natal. Two more people were injured.
The Department of Transport and Human Settlements said the family had been travelling along the highway when they collided head-on with another vehicle.
“Three children, aged 3-5, and adults believed to be the mother and the father, have died instantly. Other victims, a female and a 14-year-old male, have been rushed to the nearest hospital, said department MEC, Siboniso Duma.
Duma sent his condolences to the families of those involved in the crash.
In a separate incident, a man in his 60s died following a crash in Bowen Avenue in Umbilo.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson, said paramedics arrived at the scene to find carnage as they found a bakkie had somehow flipped coming to rest against a electricity pole.
“Immediately, the eThekwini Fire Department was dispatched to assist at the scene. Paramedics found the driver had been ejected from the wreckage on impact and sustained major injuries. Unfortunately, there was nothing more that could be done and he was declared deceased,” Jamieson said.
The man’s wife was still inside the wreckage and emergency teams were able to get her out, stabilise her at the scene before rushing her to the hospital for further care.
