South Africa is mourning the loss of Tshidi Madia, the accomplished Associate Political Editor at EWN, who passed away at the age of 42 after a short illness.
Her employer, Primedia, confirmed the news on Wednesday, leaving a void in the country’s media landscape and amongst her many colleagues, friends, and followers.
Madia’s professional journey began at Primedia Broadcasting, where she started as an assistant at the EWN traffic desk. Quickly proving her mettle, she transitioned to Power FM, where she worked as a reporter and presenter. Her career reached new heights at News24, where she became an influential figure in political reporting, showcasing her insight and dedication to the craft.
In a significant return to her roots, Madia rejoined EWN as a senior political reporter, later earning her promotion to Associate Editor: Politics. Her notable contributions to the industry included her popular podcast, “Politricking with Tshidi Madia,” which became a vital platform for engaging South African audiences with the nation’s key political figures, enhancing public discourse on important issues.
Among her many career highlights, Madia was the only reporter to secure a one-on-one interview with President Cyril Ramaphosa ahead of the upcoming 2024 Elections, showcasing her unique ability to connect with and extract insights from the highest echelons of government. Additionally, her relentless pursuit of an interview with former President Jacob Zuma at his Nkandla homestead exemplified her fearless approach to journalism, a trait admired by colleagues and aspiring journalists alike.
