WATCH | Security officer escapes unharmed following dramatic shoot-out in Somerset Park
A private security officer escaped unharmed following a dramatic shoot-out in Durban’s uMhlanga area, earlier this week. Blue Security said the guard had noticed a suspicious person near a property in Somerset Park.
“When our Blue Team approached, the suspect fled in a white Toyota Starlet. Our officers pursued the vehicle and managed to intercept it in Somerset Drive,” a spokesperson from Blue said.
In a video of the incident, which has gone viral, the guard is seen intercepting the vehicle and seconds later comes under intense attack.
As the officer alights from his vehicle, a second vehicle, believed to be with the suspects, is seen driving past and its occupants open fire on the officer.
“Both vehicles fled the area following the exchange. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the community remains safe thanks to the swift action and expertise of our Blue Security officers,” Blue said.
Blue CEO, Henk van Bemmelen, praised his team’s courage.
“We are deeply grateful for the courage, professionalism, and commitment displayed by our team under extremely dangerous circumstances,” he said.
Police are investigating further.
