The Western Cape Provincial Community Police Forum (CPF) says it is concerned about the spate of mass shooting incidents in the province.

This follows two separate mass shooting incidents on the Cape Flats on Wednesday night that claimed the lives of seven men.

Police confirmed that three men were shot dead and two others sustained gunshot wounds at Tafelsig in Mitchell’s Plain.

Police spokesperson Andre Traut says in a separate incident, four men were shot and killed and three others wounded in Philippi East.

The Chairperson of the National Community Police Forum, Fransina Lukas, says they are concerned about the number of young victims in these shooting incidents.

“We really cannot allow our communities to become desensitised to the regular occurrence of multiple murders in a singular incident. Equally alarming is the growing number of young people who are both victims and alleged perpetrators of these violent acts. This reflects the troubling cycle of violence in the communities”.
