Where is Lebo Moleli? Family frantic after man goes into student residence and vanishes
A family from Midrand, Gauteng, is appealing for assistance in locating 35-year-old Lebo Moleli Mniki, who has been missing since Thursday, 28 August.
He was last seen entering a student accommodation of a tertiary institution in Midrand. He is described as having light brown eyes, a beard, and a full tattoo on his right arm.
Family members have camped outside the property, pleading for access to security footage that could reveal his whereabouts.
He is currently employed at clothing retailer H&M. The matter has been reported to the Douglasdale Police Station.
Talking to IOL, his sister Vuyokazi Mniki described him as being highly responsible and ambitious. “He was recently promoted to regional manager at the store. To get that far, it means you’re quite disciplined,” she said.
Mniki went on to say that they last heard from Moleli that fateful Thursday when he reportedly went to visit his girlfriend.
“That was the last time we heard from him. We were alerted that he was missing when his manager called asking if we knew where he was,” added Mniki. “We began calling his girlfriend and she blocked the whole family.”
The family sitting outside includes his mother, siblings, aunt and uncle.
“All we want is to see the CCTV footage. That footage will lead and show us where he went or what happened. All we want to know is whether he is alive, did they fight that day and what exactly happened. People don’t just vanish. They don’t just disappear.”
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that a case has been opened. “The SAPS in Midrand is investigating a case of a missing person and is appealing to the public for assistance. Lebo Sonwabo Moleli Mniki aged 35 was reported missing on September 20. He was reportedly last seen on August 28, when he went to Eduvos college to visit his girlfriend,” said police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.
Nevhuhulwi said they are currently following up on all information received to locate and reunite Mniki with his family.
Anyone with information that could assist is urged to contact Sergeant Pale of Midrand detectives on 011 347 1600 or 079 877 6484.
