9 Bangladeshi nationals stopped at OR Tambo over fake visas

Nine Bangladeshi nationals were denied entry at OR Tambo International Airport, after Border Management Authority (BMA) officials found them in possession of fraudulent South African visas and Indian passports. The group was intercepted during immigration processing, on Thursday.

The travelers were refused entry and arrangements were made for their return to Bangladesh. Authorities are now investigating the source of the fraudulent documents and possible links to international crime syndicates.

“Investigations revealed that all nine individuals were in possession of fraudulent South African visas purportedly issued by the South African High Commission in New Delhi, India. Of the nine travellers, three females were travelling on ordinary Bangladeshi passports, while six males initially presented fraudulent Indian passports,” says BMA Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Mmemme Mogotsi.

Mogotsi says upon further questioning and verification, the six males subsequently produced their Bangladeshi passports.
