Sue-Kelly Maneveld: Two Decades of Enterprise, Creativity and Community Care
For Cape Town entrepreneur Sue-Kelly Maneveld, success has always come with a responsibility: to lift others up along the way. Through business, charity work, music and education, she has spent more than two decades building a life rooted in purpose and community — and this year she is being celebrated at the Influential Awards 2026 – Cape Town Region.
From a salon chair in Athlone to her own brand at 21
Sue-Kelly was born in Athlone, on the Cape Flats. She started working in a hair salon at just 12 years old, learning the craft from the ground up.
She went on to train at the College of Cape Town, where she was recognised for her achievements in hair and beauty. At 21, she formally established her own business: Be-Dazzle.
Building businesses that serve people
Today, as founder of Be-Dazzle Hair & Beauty, Sue-Kelly continues to do what she has done since she was a girl — help people feel confident and valued.
Her entrepreneurial reach goes beyond beauty, too. As co-founder of MasterPro Maintenance, she has extended her business experience into property maintenance and renovation.
A heart for community
Community service has been close to Sue-Kelly’s heart for over twenty years. She has contributed to a range of charitable initiatives, including work supporting people with autism, and has assisted care homes and shelters for survivors of domestic abuse.
For Sue-Kelly, these commitments are not separate from her success — they are part of it. She believes influence should be used with compassion, and that helping others is an essential part of any real achievement.
Shiny: music with meaning
That same personal spirit runs through her creative work. Performing as Shiny, Sue-Kelly released her debut album, Medicine, in 2021 — drawing on lived experience to explore hope, emotion and resilience.
She is also a writer and motivational speaker, sharing lessons from her own journey to encourage others facing theirs.
Leading ethically, learning constantly
Alongside her businesses and creative work, Sue-Kelly is studying towards her LLM, researching stewardship and accountability in South African corporate governance. It is a natural extension of her interest in ethical leadership, connecting her academic ambitions with her day-to-day responsibilities as an entrepreneur.
Inspiring women to believe in themselves
As she steps into her role as a brand ambassador, Sue-Kelly brings business experience, creativity and a long-standing commitment to community care. Above all, she hopes to encourage women to believe in their abilities, pursue their ambitions and recognise the difference they can make in other people’s lives.
Why Sue-Kelly Maneveld is Influential
The Influential Awards honour South Africans whose impact reaches beyond their own success. From a 12-year-old in an Athlone salon to a business owner, recording artist, speaker, postgraduate law student and community champion, Sue-Kelly shows what it looks like to build success and share it at the same time.
Fittingly, she will be honoured close to where her story began — at the Influential Awards 2026 – Cape Town, taking place on Sunday, 29 November 2026 at the Joseph Stone Auditorium, Athlone.
Her story continues through the businesses she builds, the ideas she shares and the people she supports. Congratulations, Sue-Kelly.
