Beverley Silkstone: Caring, Teaching and Leading in South African Nursing

Behind every patient who heals well, there is a nurse who knew exactly what to do — and very often, an educator who taught them. Beverley Silkstone is both. A registered nurse, midwife, educator and national leader in her profession, she is being honoured at the Influential Awards 2026 – Cape Town Region.

A nurse first

Beverley is a Registered Nurse (RN) and Registered Midwife (RM) — qualifications that place her at the heart of patient care, from the bedside to the very first moments of life. It is a foundation built on skill, compassion and an unwavering commitment to the people in her care.

Teaching the next generation of carers

Beverley’s influence reaches far beyond the patients she treats herself. As a Nurse Educator, she shapes the knowledge, standards and confidence of the nurses who follow her.

She is also a Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor, training healthcare workers in the skills that matter most when every second counts. And as an Assessor, she helps ensure that the people entering and advancing in the profession meet the standard patients deserve.

Specialist in advanced wound care

Beverley is an Advanced Wound Care Practitioner — a specialised field where clinical expertise directly affects how quickly, safely and comfortably patients recover. Complex wounds demand knowledge, patience and precision, and they have a profound effect on a patient’s quality of life. It is work that quietly changes lives.

Leading at a national level

As National Chairperson of the SPNP, Beverley leads at the national level of her profession, representing and championing nurse practitioners across South Africa. It is a role that reflects the trust and respect she has earned among her peers.

Why Beverley Silkstone is Influential

The Influential Awards honour South Africans whose impact reaches far beyond their own success. Beverley Silkstone’s influence is multiplied many times over — through every nurse she has taught, every life-saving skill she has passed on, every wound she has helped to heal, and every colleague she represents nationally.

Beverley will be honoured at the Influential Awards 2026 – Cape Town, taking place on Sunday, 29 November 2026 at the Joseph Stone Auditorium, Athlone.

Congratulations, Beverley — and thank you for caring for South Africa, and for teaching others to do the same.
