President Cyril Ramaphosa says Vedanta Zinc International’s investment in the Gamsberg mine in the Northern Cape demonstrates confidence in South Africa’s economic potential.

President Ramaphosa delivered the keynote address at the inauguration of the mine’s Phase Two concentrator.

The expansion is expected to increase zinc production capacity and support job creation, while government continues to push for greater investment and beneficiation of the country’s mineral resources.

“Vedanta did not wait for every challenge to be resolved before investing. It recognized that South Africa possessed enduring strengths, abundant mineral resources, a substantial industrial base, sophisticated financial institutions, skilled and talented people and access to a growing African international market.”
