South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) GCEO Nomsa Chabeli says SABC News has reaffirmed the broadcaster’s commitment to delivering trusted news and reflecting society through its coverage.

Today marks 75 years since the existence of the SABC News service and its first news bulletin aired from the broadcast house on Commissioner Street in Johannesburg.

Chabeli says the public broadcaster is proud to commemorate this significant achievement, underscoring its enduring role as a reliable source of information and a true mirror of the nation.

She says, “For three quarters of a century, SABC News has been at the heart of our democracy, informing, educating and empowering generations of South Africans. Through times of change, through times of struggle, through times of triumph and transformation SABC News, SABC News has remained a trusted source of news, a mirror to society, not only to our nation, but also to the world, trying to understand South Africa.”
