Toyota and Kaizer Chiefs bring joy to Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre
Toyota South Africa Motors and Kaizer Chiefs Football Club extended their “Heart on Sleeve” initiative to the Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre in KwaZulu-Natal as part of their Mandela Month celebrations.
The partnership delivered essential items like new clothing, groceries, toiletries, and microwaves, along with match tickets for Saturday’s (yesterday) Toyota Cup, on Thursday.
The collaboration between Toyota South Africa Motors and Kaizer Chiefs builds on the momentum that started on Mandela Day in 2023. The initiative continues to transform sponsorship visibility into meaningful support for South Africa’s most vulnerable communities, bringing not only donations, but connection, encouragement, and joy to the children living in the centre.
The day’s programme commenced with a warm welcome and opening remarks from Toyota, Kaizer Chiefs, and the centre’s representatives.
Following this, Kaizer Chiefs players conducted an energetic coaching clinic for the children, characterised by laughter, movement, and play.
Toyota South Africa Motors general manager: marketing communications, Tasneem Lorgat, said: “For Toyota South Africa, Heart on Sleeve is more than a campaign; it is a shared commitment between Toyota and Kaizer Chiefs to show up for communities in a meaningful way. It is about turning visibility into value, and sponsorship into service.
“Together, we’re using this platform not just to represent our brands, but to live our values, by standing alongside organisations like Ethelbert that are doing the real work of care and upliftment.”
Kaizer Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung said: “We’re very happy to be here at the Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre with Toyota to inspire and empower the children of this home, and to say thank you to the caregivers for the work they are doing.
“What a great initiative, a home looking after young kids who are abandoned, and some who cannot be cared for in their own homes. It’s a good thing to do as part of our Heart on Sleeve campaign, to say we can give back, share, and empower. So thank you, Toyota, for allowing us to come and share the spirit of love and peace.”
On Facebook, the Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre said it was a day to remember.
“A heartfelt thank you to Toyota South Africa and the legendary Kaizer Chiefs for spending a truly unforgettable afternoon with our children at Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre!” the Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre said.
“From a generous donation that will make a lasting difference, to an inspiring soccer coaching clinic filled with laughter, skills, and encouragement — you’ve left footprints on our field and in our hearts.
“Our children were absolutely starstruck and will be talking about this day for a long time to come. Thank you for showing up with purpose, passion, and kindness.”
