Discover vivo’s V60 Lite 5G in South Africa — and what it brings to local users
vivo’s latest mid-range smartphone, the V60 Lite 5G, has officially launched in South Africa, offering a practical combination of battery endurance, imaging features, and durability for everyday users.
The device features a massive 6500mAh BlueVolt battery, housed in a slim 7.59mm chassis, making it the thinnest device in its segment with such battery capacity. It’s designed for heavy daily use—streaming, gaming, or video calling—and thanks to 90W FlashCharge, the phone can recharge from 1% to 100% in under an hour. vivo claims users can expect up to five years of reliable battery performance.
For gamers, Bypass Charging in Ultra Game Mode is also included to reduce heat buildup by directing current straight to the system, bypassing the battery to maintain smoother, cooler sessions.
Upgraded imaging and night photography
On the photography front, the V60 Lite is equipped with a 50MP Sony IMX882 AF sensor and AI Master Aura Light Portrait technology. The system adapts light colour temperature based on scene type, improving portrait clarity in both daytime and low-light conditions.
Additional imaging tools include AI Erase 3.0, AI Photo Enhance, and vivo’s own Super Night Algorithm. Both the front and rear cameras support 4K video recording, and a Film Camera mode brings creative retro filters into the mix for content creators.
Durability gets a serious upgrade
The V60 Lite comes with what vivo calls its 7-Star Quality Promise, a suite of durability features uncommon in the segment. These include MIL-STD-810H military-grade drop resistance, SGS-certified impact protection, and an IP65 rating for water and dust resistance.
A reinforced TPU case is included in the box, and for added reassurance, vivo offers 360° Accidental Protection, covering one-time repairs to the screen, back, frame, or camera glass within the first year (valued at R4000). The company also guarantees 50 months of smooth performance and 5-year battery health, making it a standout option for users who prioritise longevity.
Performance and design with a local appeal
The device runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7360-Turbo chipset, with up to 16GB RAM (8GB + 8GB Extended RAM) and 256GB storage, allowing for smooth multitasking, gaming, and app switching. Connectivity is boosted by AI SuperLink, which combines 5G, 360° omnidirectional antennas, and smart switching to maintain network stability even in challenging environments.
In terms of design, the V60 Lite features a Transparent Camera Module in a minimalist vertical layout, and an ultra-thin flat screen that fits comfortably in hand. It is available in Elegant Black and Titanium Blue—the latter inspired by Arctic ice with a subtle metallic finish.
Local availability and outlook
The vivo V60 Lite 5G is now available across South Africa, priced at R12,999, and comes bundled with a free smartwatch for a limited time. It will be sold through Vodacom and Cell C retail outlets and online stores.
The launch comes amid growing competition in the sub-R13,000 price range, where brands are increasingly differentiating through camera features, battery innovations, and post-sale services.
Whether the V60 Lite can stand out will depend not only on specs—but on how well vivo’s quality promise translates to everyday reliability in the hands of South African users.
