Cocaine worth R13 million seized at Durban Port

Cocaine worth approximately R13-million has been recovered by the police at the Durban port.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says the police were profiling certain vessels following a drug bust in Gauteng in April.
That seizure revealed that the drugs were smuggled into the country through the Durban port.
The police found the 32 blocks of cocaine when a shipment of buses destined for Gauteng was intercepted and searched.
Netshiunda says investigations are continuing.
“During an operation which involved officers from Durban Operational Response Services and the Serious Organised Crime Investigations Unit, 32 blocks of suspected cocaine were recovered concealed in the air conditioning compartment of a bus. The buses were shipped into the country from a South American country and were destined for Gauteng province. Investigations are underway to uncover the suspects behind the shipment and intended recipients.”
