President Cyril Ramaphosa will use the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), kicking off on Tuesday, to advance a progressive agenda for a more just, peaceful and equitable world order.

Ramaphosa is going to lead the country’s delegation to the 80th session of the UNGA in New York, United States, to discuss pressing global issues.

It will be held under the theme “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights”.

The session, which will be attended by world leaders from next week, coincides with 80 years since the UN was founded.

As the world is battling with conflicts from the Eastern DRC, Sudan, South Sudan, Gaza and Ukraine, President Ramaphosa will champion the peaceful resolution of conflicts and robust multilateralism.

He will also carry a clear message from the Global South, amplified by Pretoria as the current chair of the G20.

Ramaphosa will call for the reforms of the UN Security Council.

Delegates will push for enhanced global cooperation to achieve sustainable development goals.

The President will participate in a number of activities, including the G20 foreign ministers meeting and high-level meetings on the two-state solution in Israel and Palestine.
