Senior municipal official arrested in relation to fraud, corruption
Police say a 50-year-old senior municipal official has been arrested on charges of fraud, corruption, and defeating the ends of justice.
The arrest was carried out by the SAPS’ Madlanga Task Team.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the suspect was arrested at his home on Saturday morning, while the search for additional suspects continues.
Mathe says the suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday.
“The SAPS’ Madlanga Task Team has arrested a 50-year-old senior municipal official for fraud, corruption and defeating and/or obstructing the ends of justice. The official was arrested this morning at his home in Gauteng. The Task Team is still searching for other suspects linked to the case. These arrests emanate from an ongoing investigation into corruption within the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD). No further comment will be provided on the merits of the case at this stage. All suspects are expected to appear before the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 20 April 2026.”
