National Treasury says it has enlisted the services of independent, external forensic investigators to test allegations that have been made at the Madlanga Commission.

The allegations are against former National Treasury chief director, Molefe Fani.

He is accused of improperly influencing the awarding of contracts during his time at the organisation, for the likely benefit of suspended Crime Intelligence deputy head Feroz Khan and his associates.

The statement further explains that at National Treasury, transversal contracts are centrally managed by the office of the chief procurement officer, which is responsible for the sourcing strategy, bid process and the awarding of contracts.

It also adds that Treasury involves the departments for which it is sourcing the goods and services.

While acknowledging that this latest decision was in the public interest, National Treasury said it would not be speaking further on this matter until the finalization of the forensic investigation.
