Cape Town braces for extreme heat on Tuesday
The South African Weather Service has forecast hot to very hot and uncomfortable conditions across the Western Cape on Tuesday, with the City of Cape Town also expected to feel the heat.
Temperatures are expected to reach the high 20s to early 30s.
According to the City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre (DRMC), the extreme weather could have significant health and environmental impacts.
Residents are urged to take precautions to mitigate potential risks.
“Stay out of the sun as far as possible, limit strenuous outdoor activities, and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and other clear liquids, avoid alcohol,” said Charlotte Powell, spokesperson for the DRMC.
She also highlighted the need to protect vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and animals.
The DRMC will monitor the situation and coordinate responses with other City departments and external partners if needed.
Residents are reminded to contact the City’s Emergency Communication Centre at 021 480 7700 if there is any threat to life or property.
