Deadly police operation in Cosmo City: Manhunt for cop killer, Jabulani Moyo
One person has been shot dead as a manhunt for Jabulani Moyo, wanted for killing two police officers in Roodepoort, led to a deadly operation in Cosmo City.
This comes after one suspect was shot dead and another was arrested by police in Cosmo City, north of Johannesburg, on Saturday.
Moyo is wanted in connection with the killing of two police officers in Roodepoort, Gauteng, on Friday, August 8, 2025.
He allegedly shot dead the two officers from a trio task team while they were transporting him back to Boksburg Prison following a court appearance.
Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed that one suspect was fatally wounded and another arrested in Cosmo City during an operation targeting Moyo.
“One suspect was fatally wounded and a second suspect arrested in Cosmo City as police were chasing Jabulani Moyo, who is wanted for escaping from lawful custody and the murder of two police officers in Roodepoort in August this year,” Masondo said.
He confirmed that Major General Fred Kekana will address the media at the crime scene.
When IOL News arrived at the scene, it found a heavy police presence in the area.
Community members had gathered outside to watch as police combed the scene.
A community member, who asked not to be named, said she heard gunshots earlier in the day.
“We heard gunshots at around 12pm. There were many bullets that we heard. We don’t know what’s happening,” she said.
