Double murder in Kariega: Gunmen storm home, open fire on sleeping women
The South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Organised Crime: Anti-Gang Unit is currently investigating a chilling double murder and attempted murder incident that occurred during the early hours of Saturday 5 July 2025, in Kamesh, Kariega. Authorities are appealing for public assistance as they piece together the events surrounding this tragic event.
“SAPS Kamesh received reports of gunfire at a residence located on Pompano Crescent, Tiryville. Upon arrival, officers were met with a harrowing scene. It was reported that unknown assailants had forcibly kicked open the front door of the house before launching a violent assault on three women inside the property,” said provincial police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg.
In a targeted attack, the suspects made their way to a bedroom where the victims were gathered, and opened fire. The two women pronounced dead at the scene were identified as Fredirika Booysen, 46, and Teresa Pullen, 32. Both suffered fatal gunshot wounds. A third woman, also in her 30s, sustained injuries during the incident and was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The motive behind the violent attack remains unclear at this time. The SAPS has stated that an extensive investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances leading up to the attack on these women. Until next-of-kin notifications have been completed, the names of the deceased will not be released to the public.
