GP SAPS officer faces disciplinary action over alleged bribery

An immediate disciplinary process has been instituted against a police officer captured on a social media video in full uniform allegedly returning a cash bribe to a member of the public. Gauteng police management says the officer has been identified and a departmental investigation has also been launched to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Gauteng South African Police Services (SAPS) says the acceptance, solicitation or facilitation of a bribe constitutes a criminal offence and a serious violation of the SAPS Code of Conduct.
“The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Tommy Mthombeni, has strongly condemned the alleged conduct. The SAPS will not tolerate corruption in any form. Members who abuse their authority, compromise their integrity, or betray the trust placed in them by the public will be dealt with decisively. We are committed to ensuring that every allegation of corruption is thoroughly investigated,” says Gauteng police spokesperson, Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.
