Law enforcement agencies have been deployed across KwaZulu-Natal as thousands of voting stations have opened for this weekend’s voter registration drive.

Voter registration stations will be open from 8am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Provincial police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says officers are on the ground to ensure citizens register in a safe and secure environment.

He has warned that law enforcement will act decisively against any unlawful conduct.

“Police are ready to quell any tensions. Police are ready to deal with any lawlessness. Police are ready to ensure that those who want to register to vote do so in a peaceful environment.”

Netshiunda adds: “We are not going to tolerate any act of criminality and as the police we are charged with the responsibility to ensure that there is peace, stability and order, and we will carry that mandate without fear, favour or prejudice.” – Reporting by Zanele Buthelezi
