SADC urges more investment from the African continent
Southern African Development Community (SADC) Executive Secretary Elias Magosi says the region will continue backing efforts to unlock Africa’s vast economic potential.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the African Development Bank Group’s Annual Meetings in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo. The talks come as African nations grapple with raising resources in an increasingly fragmented global economy.
Magosi says SADC member states must ramp up trade, drive industrial growth and create much-needed jobs.
“Generally we have looked for funds elsewhere outside of the continent not realising that we are sitting with huge amounts of funds and huge amounts of resources in the continent particularly for the SADC region. We are talking about pension funds, insurance funds, private equity funds we have got a majority of them sitting in the continent, and guess what, they even invest these monies outside the continent.”
